Subject: BIOLOGY 12
Introduction: Biology 12 focuses on human biology, allowing students to develop an interest in and an understanding of science by seeing how the diverse body systems are integrated to maintain homeostasis.
Curriculum Organizers:
The three curriculum organizers are Cell Biology, Cell Processes and Applications, and Human Biology.
Course Content:
Handsworth’s Science Department has divided the curriculum organizers as follows:
Human Biology
Chapters 11, 12, 13, 14, 15,16, 17,20, 21,22 and Fetal Pig Lab
Cell Biology
Chapter 2 & 3
Cell Processes and Applications
Chapter 25, 4, 6

Activities and Strategies will include:

Assessment and Evaluation
Assessment is the systematic gathering of information about what students know, are able to do, and are working toward.
1. Assessment strategies may include:
abs will be due at specific times
- quizs will be given at any time without notice after notes, labs or other assignments.
- major chapter tests
- homework will be checked for completeness
- notebook will be evaluated on a spot check basis for completeness, neatness, organization etc.
- project and presentation
2. Marks Distribution
School Mark------------------------------80% Classwork--- 15%
Lab work---- 20%
Tests---------- 65%
Final EXAM------------------------ 20%
3. Special Evaluation Policies
Exams and assignments that are missed through absence may receive zero. Teachers will use their discretion, giving full or partial credit in some situations, for example illness or school related activities.
In accordance with school policy the Science Department will not make special arrangements to accommodate family vacations.
A printout of your marks will be sent home with you after each chapter test to be signed. These need to be returned promptly to receive marks.
If you are going to miss a test due to illness your parent must phone and leave a message before the time of the test or you may get zero for your mark.
